Your Child’s First Visit
It is important to establish positive oral health at a young age. At the first visit, our goal is to evaluate your child’s needs and come up with a game plan. We tailor your child’s first visit based on their age and comfort level. The earlier you introduce your child to the dentist, the more comfortable they’ll be. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends children start going to the dentist by age one or when their first tooth appears, whichever comes first.
WHAT TO EXPECT
PREPPING YOUR CHILD
Your child’s first dental appointment can be stressful and we want to do all we can to take that stress away. Schedule during the day when your child is best (not during naptime.) It may be good to review Lydia’s First Visit video and look at Tour Our Office pictures but it is best not to over prepare or make the visit seem like a big deal.
Office Tour
Once you arrive at our office, we try to see you right away but we have a fun waiting area that your child will love. We will also take your child on a brief tour of the office so they can see our office is fun and friendly place. We will use positive language, wear fun clothing, and get down to their level. Of course, you may stay with your child during the entire visit.
Comprehensive Exam & Cleaning
Depending on your child’s age, we will count teeth, clean teeth, and take x-rays. For a patient referred from another office, we will review dental history and past x-rays and address the dental needs to get to a healthy smile.
Personalized Care
We want the best for your child. We discuss and evaluate your child’s growth and development, teething and habit issues, discuss fluoride status and develop oral hygiene strategies specifically for your child so that they can become independently healthy!
Our tower of toys
A visit to Sea of Smiles Pediatric Dentistry always ends with a toy and a smile!
