Preventative Dental Services
Prophylaxis (dental cleaning): Dental cleanings are important appointments that allow the doctors and hygienist to monitor your child’s oral health. The hygienist will clean and polish the teeth. This helps to promote healthy gums and teeth by removing the plaque that causes decay and gum infection. They will also provide oral hygiene recommendations specifically for your child.
Fluoride Treatments: Fluoride applications help to strengthen the enamel on your child’s teeth and helps prevent cavities. According to the AAPD, children should be receiving fluoride treatments every six months.
Sealants: Sealants protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and should be applied as a child’s permanent teeth erupt. We may recommend sealants for the child’s primary teeth as well. The sealants that we have placed have been highly successful in preventing decay.
Mouth Guards: Our office offers a variety of mouth protection from custom-made mouth guards to those with orthodontic appliances. We can help you decide what type of mouth guard that is best suited for your child based on your child’s age and the type of sports in which he or she participates.
